Ian Factor - Bend Academy of Art

BLM Portrait Demo (Long Version with Discussion)

Here's a 20 minute video condensed down from about 2.5 hours of two live Zoom demos from two class sessions for my Intermediate Portrait Drawing students at the Bend Academy of Art. I discuss the process, both conceptually and technically while talking a little about my subject matter, materials and emotional narrative, This leads me into a brief overview of one of my "Teaching Triads"; Subject, Form and Content.

Ian Factor - Drawing I Lecture, Materials, Setup & Value Demo • 5/05/2020

This is the first in a series of introductory discussions and demonstrations of basic materials, setup and execution of value (tonal) drawing with charcoal. This first video is intended for beginning drawing students, but is a good reminder and overview for those more experienced. Please keep in mind this is just one of thousands of approaches to value drawing and is hopefully seen as an easy, fun and expressive way to delve in to the medium of charcoal while rendering in a realistic, classical way. The video is about one hour.
